Zanzibar
Zanzibar is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. On its main island, Unguja, familiarly called Zanzibar, is Stone Town, a historic trade center with Swahili and Islamic influences. Its winding lanes present minarets, carved doorways and 19th-century landmarks such as the House of Wonders, a former sultan’s palace. The northern villages Nungwi and Kendwa have wide beaches lined with hotels.
Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive to Zanzibar. Head to historic city of Stonetown and checkin into the Maru Maru Hotel.
Day 2
Historic Stonetown Walking tour. Walk the historic streets of Stonetown and visit the many curio shops, the House of Wonders, the Mercury House, the birthplace of Freddie Mercury of the rock group Queen, visit Kilele Square, Hamamni Persian Baths, and much more.
Day 3
This will be day 2 of the Historic Stonetown Walking Tour. Today we will focus on the famous Doors of Stonetown. Learn about the rich history and the story behind these elaborate and majestic doors.
Day 4
We will visit the beautiful city and beaches of Nungwi. Nungwi is a village at the northern end of the Tanzanian island of Unguja, familiarly called Zanzibar. It’s known for the wide, palm-lined Nungwi Beach and a nearby boat-building yard for the production of traditional dhows. The Mnarani Marine Turtle Conservation Pond shelters green and hawksbill sea turtles in a tidal lagoon. Off the coast, coral reefs teeming with colorful fish include Hunga and Leven Bank.
Day 5
Today, we will visit Prison Island and Nakupenda Beach. Explore the diverse ecosystems on the island. Go snorkeling, play with the tortoises, and walk the white sand beaches of Prison Island.
Day 6
Today, we will visit Kendwa Beach. Kendwa is one of the most beautiful beaches in Zanzibar. Enjoy the white sand, blue sands, food, and shopping that this beach has to offer.
Day 7
Today, we will visit Mnemba Island, where we will enjoy snorkeling and a Dolphin tour. Mnemba is considered to be one of the best places to snorkel in Africa. We will enjoy the diverse ocean life that Mnemba has to offer.
Day 8
Zanzibar Spice Farm Tour. Zanzibar is known for its world famous spices. At one time, it was labeled the spice capital of the world. We will visit Tangawizi Spice Farm and learn about all of the different spices and fruits grown in Zanzibar. We will then visit Masingini Forest Reserve, which is recognized for its rare trees and animals.
Day 9
You’ll have free time to tie up any loose ends i.e., shopping before its time to head to the airport.
