Benin, a French-speaking West African nation, is a birthplace of the vodun (or “voodoo”) religion and home to the former Dahomey Kingdom from circa 1600–1900. In Abomey, Dahomey’s former capital, the Historical Museum occupies two royal palaces with bas-reliefs recounting the kingdom’s past and a throne mounted on human skulls. To the north, Pendjari National Park offers safaris with elephants, hippos, and lions.
Depart JFK International Airport, arrive to Benin. Transfer from Cotonou Cadjehoun International Airport to the Benin Royal hotel.
If you love shopping, here you go. We will visit Dantokpa Marke, the largest open-air market in West Africa. From fabric to antiques, Danktopa is a shopper’s paradise. We will also visit the Amazon of Dahomey Statue and the Cotonou Arts Market.
We will visit the capital city of Benin, Porto-Novo. You will be able to tour the Porto-Novo Ethnographic Museum where you learn about the history of Benin Republic. We will then visit Musee da Silva and learn about the Afro-Brazilian experience in Benin Republic. Musee Honme, Jardin Place Jean Bayol, and other historic landmarks will be visited during our day trip to Porto Novo.
Today, we will visit Ganvie. Ganvie is considered the Venice of Africa,for it’s an African City that’s built entirely on stilts and is the largest city that’s built on a lake in Africa. Ganvie is a must see for everyone who visits Benin.
We will now head to Allada, which was home to the great Haitian freedom fighter Toussaint Louverture. Allada is also considered to be the birthplace of Voodoo. Learn about the rich history of Allada and the connection between Allada and Haiti/ America. We Will check out of Benin Royal Hotel and check in into Djegba Hotel in Ouidah, Benin.
We will now head to Ouidah. Ouidah is the Capital of Voodoo on the planet. We will visit the Python Temple, The Point of No Return, The Sacred Forest, Zinsou Foundation Museum, Ouidah Museum and we will also have the opportunity to visit the Palace of HM Dada Daagbo Hounon Houna II the Supreme Chief of Voodoo.

Today, we will venture to Abomey and visit the ancient palaces of Ghezo and Glele which have since been converted into museums. These museums are on the UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Abomey was once the capital of the Kingdom of Dahomey and is rich in history and culture.

We will visit the Zinsou Foundation in Cotonou and visit other cultural and historic landmarks like The Artisanal Center, Place des Martyrs, Etoile Rouge, and Fidjrosse Beach.

You’ll have free time to tie up any loose ends i.e., shopping before its time to head to the airport.
